ABSTRACT
Kinship is a system of embodied social relations. While in the West kinship often is treated as a biological fact, it is not so clear cut or simple as that. In this chapter, we examine the bioculturally diverse basis-or bases-for kinship in various cultural contexts, and we explore the ramifi cations of these for family building strategies.
