ABSTRACT

Advertising agencies distinguish between what they call a “hard sell” and a “soft sell.” A hard sell is one in which the advertisements and commercials are very direct in their attempts to sell the product. They focus on its features and pressure viewers to purchase the product, often making it possible to do so immediately by calling a telephone number or clicking on something in an internet advertisement. “Buy now” is the mantra. This is quite different from a “soft sell” in which there is no pressure in the advertisement or commercial to act immediately.
