ABSTRACT

This chapter examines how qualitative communication scholars make critical decisions in the process of conducting research. It also examines hot they represents the full range of qualitative communication research: social science, narrative, and performance. The chapter explores that passing through time and space, past worlds of positivist and post-positivist understanding, past conceptions of objectivity and generalizability, the author connect, heart to heart, with depth of understanding, with a world that accepts and acknowledges chaos, mess, reality, intensity, emotionality. It discusses that through the scholar's stories, people can connect the past, the present, the future, connect the generations of scholars, researchers, ethnographers, and connect the wisdom across the ages, of the philosophers and scribes. Throughout the conversation the author explores that regardless of our orientation, method, or paradigm, scholars are all ethnographers and discusses the scholars of human behavior and explains that they transcend time and place to explore and enlighten.
