ABSTRACT
This chapter provides information for reference and education. It helps as a guide to plant identification. The chapter presents a complete list of the plants Josephine uses, alphabetized according to the common name that she most prefers, followed by other common names that Josephine uses, when she uses more than one. Each plant listing includes information about whether the plant is native or non-native, the part or parts used, the purpose or purposes of a given plant's use, preparation guidelines, and, in the case of all medicinal uses, the adult dosage. To ensure correct identification, each plant listing includes the plant's Latin binomial. In some cases, the Latin name of the particular species that Josephine uses is not known; this is indicated by the abbreviation "sp". In other cases, more than one species is used; this is indicated by the abbreviation "spp". James A. Ferrara compiled and edited the Karuk names listed in the text.
