After a period when they were denigrated by sociologists, the revival in Anglo-American practice since the 1990s has been largely due to the belief that localism is good for sustainability. Designers such as Andres Duany and Peter Calthorpe in America, and David Lock and URBED in the UK, have given it new impetus.1
