ABSTRACT

Transporting goods, services, and money across international boundaries has been a part of human exchange seemingly forever, but that exchange has been increasing dramatically over the last 50 years as communication and transportation technology has expanded. The vast majority of those items are exchanged legally and contribute heavily to an increasingly global economy. Specific types of goods and services, however, are considered harmful and are banned or severely limited for a variety of reasons. When individuals, groups, or states trade those items over international boundaries it is considered trafficking.
