ABSTRACT

Walking is fundamentally connected to the other two dimensions of human life – two-dimensionality and the zero. Here we touch upon the impossibility of representing the void. In 2010 film, The Cave of Forgotten Dreams, Werner Herzog recognised the significance of cave painting for the problem of representing the void. Foucault's work touched upon the heart of transformation, identifying it with the rise of representation as an activity, and the sign as the main instrument for gaining such knowledge. According to Frances Yates, the modern vision concerning the role and modalities of knowledge has roots not only in esoteric undertakings, but also in the theatre. The novelty introduced by Giulio Camillo Delminio was a peculiar combination of knowledge and theatre that on the one hand today sounds completely odd, and on the other is stunningly similar to some of the most cherished ideas of the Enlightenment and modernity.
