ABSTRACT

In Chapters 2 and 3 of this book, I highlighted several fundamental flaws that are inherent in modern extractive agriculture – that is, in that form of food production, especially grain and legume production, that dominates the world today. In particular, I concentrated on its economic unsustainability, its ecological unsustainability, the risks it poses to human health, and the ways in which it goes “against the grain”, both historically and socially, of human development.
