ABSTRACT

This chapter contains six art and design projects which have all been used with pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) in mainstream schools and are designed to identify and develop their artistic abilities. These projects include the iron man, forms in a landscape, picasso, plates and portraiture, identity, flight and water. Each project has a keynote artist for reference and a planning sheet that includes: learning objectives and outcomes; practical skills; visual elements; and suggested resources. A project beginning with portraiture and leading to constructing masks is an interesting way to explore the theme of identity and individual creativity. Some resources can be adapted for any project: for example a starter project, a homework project and an activity sheet. The planning sheets may be inserted into the medium-and long-term planning models. The medium-term planning sheet covers every aspect of planning for a Key Stage 3 (KS3) art and design project.
