ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 is a back-to-back examination of Jung’s depth psychology and Patañjali’s Classical Yoga. Jung’s and Patañjali’s ideas on consciousness, mind–psyche, ego–Self, and the transformation of human consciousness are studied. The most striking difference is their approaches to consciousness even though at the core of their healing methodologies, they are both working with integration and psychospiritual alignment. Whereas Patañjali’s Yoga relies upon a strong metaphysical schematic, Jung’s psychology does not. Jung’s ideas on an unconscious, non–self-illuminating Creator, which is ontically inaccessible, set the foundations of his depth psychology on distinctly different ground than that of Classical Yoga.
