Suddenly on the verge of puberty, of which I knew even less, here I was, a victim of it. True, the daft lads were allowed to walk around the pipes on the wall of the class at the ‘bottom’ school, while we did colouring and sums; the daft lads couldn’t take books home, but I could; but school had never seemed to be owt more than the playground.
