ABSTRACT

In order to study the creative application of knowledge in the knowledge economy, this investigation used a combined interdisciplinary and relational approach (Guile, 2010) in the literature review drawing on the disciplines of economics, management, psychology, and sociology. It found an eclectic and discipline-centric view of creative application of knowledge where knowledge work was regarded as generic with definite roles and functions allocated to specific jobs. This study argued for a more nuanced understanding of creative knowledge work and identified three approaches: intra-and inter-sectoral roles and functions of specific jobs, and the inf luence of these workers on operational cultures and practices.
