ABSTRACT

Chapter 11 looks to the future of the Early Years sector. It recognises that the babies and children of today will be living in a future that could be very different by the time they are grown up, especially with the exponential rise in the examples and power of technology. Some of the technological changes of the near future and their implications are considered here. The childcare sector itself may look very different in the future, as work expectations evolve, childcare ‘norms’ change and research may start to identify trends in children’s holistic development that have resulted from this in the past. Some of the implications of this are considered in this chapter. In addition, there is a section on the exciting developments in neuroscience and biology, which may change the way that child development is currently understood altogether.
