ABSTRACT

Chapter 2 focuses on Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED) and how this underpins all other learning. The recognition of the powerful effects of emotional development, especially in babyhood, is discussed in this chapter. This is closely linked to language and communication and then referenced to how this could affect other learning experiences, dispositions and cognition. The virtuous circle of reinforcement and holistic development between the three areas of PSED, physical development and communication (whether pre-verbal, verbal or non-verbal) is discussed and explained within the birth to three age range.
