ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 reviews the physical development of babies and children from birth to three years old. The way that the physical growth of babies and young children enables almost every other area of learning, from being able to communicate effectively, to cognitive function to embodiment, is examined from the very earliest reflexes onwards. This is an area of learning and development that permeates every other area, and therefore the holistic development links for physical development have been chosen to reflect the links in other chapters, but viewed from the perspective of the role of physical development. The senses are considered in this chapter, including vestibular and proprioception.
