ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses projection equipment and focuses on how to use the technology rather than dwelling on the specific equipment. Lensless projectors form the simplest example of projectors and in many cases can be compared to simple shadow projections. Lens projectors have a set of objective lenses placed in front of a slide that are used to concentrate and focus the image onto a projection surface. The slide or source material is an extremely important element of any projection and in many cases determines the overall success of a resulting image. Digital projection represents the future for the projection industry—actually, in many ways, digital projection and video have pretty much already replaced many traditional means of projection. Convergence is a relatively new term to the lighting industry that the lighting designers use to discuss the interrelationships that are emerging between the scenic, lighting, video, and projection disciplines.
