ABSTRACT

The relationship between the dark triad model and the Five-Factor Model is important because each covers a different perspective of personality. Indeed, most research on the dark triad personality in the workplace was based on the multidimensional model. Narcissism is a personality characteristic used to describe individuals ranging from those who can function normally in society to those who are clinically impaired by their grandiose perception of themselves and their willingness to exploit others. Narcissism is related to other “normal” variables, such as Machiavellianism and psychopathy. Machiavellians may also achieve success, but they may not quite make it because they lack the total ruthlessness of corporate psychopaths. A Machiavellian personality does not imply that the individual has the lack of conscience displayed by psychopaths, but it has broad similarities to many definitions of a psychopathic personality. “Successful” or “corporate” psychopaths are said to be people with psychopathic personality disorder patterns but without the characteristic history of arrest and incarceration.
