ABSTRACT

The ability to recognise objects is basic to life. From the most lowly to the most highly developed species, survival depends upon accurately identifying objects in the surrounding world. Yet, although object recognition is a primary cognitive ability, we have, at present, only a limited understanding of the cognitive processes involved. What information makes up an object concept? How are object concepts organised? How are object names related to object concepts? These are some of the questions which need to be answered.
