ABSTRACT

Artists continually see the beauty in everything, from the colors of their palettes to the remnants of the artistic process. Artistic souls very often find that the beauty of discarded products can be more alluring than the original output. Working with lye requires some care because of the strong fumes and risk of burning the skin, but overall it is an easy process that allows a person the benefit of controlling exactly what goes into a person's soap. Soap is made in a two-step process: making the soap, then unmolding and cutting for curing. Many people, especially beginners, prefer to buy premade soap bases instead of starting from scratch. These soap bases, often called glycerin soaps, can be found in most craft stores. Once the soap base is hot and liquid, a person can then add color, scent, and even exfoliating ingredients as well as butters and oils to soften and smooth the skin.
