ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the theoretical framework for the study. It defines some key terms such as ‘corporate actor’ and ‘institutions’. The chapter provides a definition for the term ‘global governance’ and outlines the development of the global governance theory with a particular focus on its analytical dimension. The second part of the chapter introduces selected organisation theories which can help to explain and analyse organisational characteristics and contribute to the analytical perspective of global governance. The focus is on the organisational structure, identity and culture, knowledge development, and change and learning. In this context, the chapter considers the interplay between the micro-level (individual actors) and the meso-level (organisational level).
