ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the IFIs and focuses on those organisations which are directly involved in the dialogue with the Global Unions. The chapter is divided into three parts: the first part examines the World Bank; the second part considers the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the third part analyses the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The chapter examines organisational characteristics, such as the organisational structure and identity of each organisation, it discusses organisational policies and frameworks of importance to the Global Unions (e.g. the World Bank procurement and safeguard policies), and it looks at key developments of these policies. The chapter highlights the impact of organisational leadership and organisational reforms on the relationship between trade union and IFI representatives.
