ABSTRACT

This final chapter provides a summary of the development of the dialogue and its achievements since its establishment. The chapter concludes that although the organisations involved in the policy dialogue are permanently interconnected through the formalised dialogue mechanism, their heterogeneity expressed in different organisational interests and practices influences the dialogue process and outcomes. Despite the continuity of the dialogue and the interest of the trade unions to further strengthen the dialogue, many challenges remain. Nevertheless, despite its shortcomings and remaining challenges, the structured policy dialogue is unique in terms of its level of formality, structure, and continuity. The dialogue remains an important instrument for the stakeholders involved and the coordination of their efforts and initiatives to tackle global, regional, and national economic and social challenges.
