ABSTRACT

Building and fire codes are necessary to prevent catastrophes from occurring. This chapter presents a case study that shows why building codes are so important. At most venues, very important persons (VIPs) have additional safeguards that provide them more protection and a quicker evacuation route from the venue. The case study illustrates a situation that is still relevant today having proper building codes that can prevent a fire from spreading. Building codes are crucial in the prevention of fires, especially for densely populated areas. Maintaining agreements with external agencies is critical in times of crisis for fighting fires, providing security, providing medical assistance, evacuating citizens, or repairing damaged or destroyed infrastructure. Fires that occur in open plains areas can be difficult to contain if resources cannot be brought to bear down on the initial epicenter of the fire. The case study should be used to illustrate why city codes for large venues are so important.
