ABSTRACT

Vision can be described as the ability to think about the future in a positive, imaginative and creative way. Managers need to be able to hold and develop a vision so that the rest of the team are constantly aware of what their work is about and why it is important to change and continually develop their practice. Whilst inspectors, development workers, trainers and others may help settings periodically, they cannot ensure that the setting is constantly monitoring and improving the way it delivers its vision for children. Vision is important then because it is closely tied in with motivation. If people know why they are doing something, and they can see the value of what they are doing, it is more likely they will perform better in order to achieve the task. It is important to acknowledge that there are two types of vision — personal vision and organisational vision.
