ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book argues that recovery from first episode of psychosis is complex and multifaceted and needs to be approached from three broad but complementary perspectives: symptomatic, social and personal. It demonstrates how this approach to recovery can be achieved through integrated working in an EIP team and is divided into four sections. The book reviews the previous chapters and discusses facilitators, barriers and potential interactions between symptomatic, social, and personal recovery, along with reviewing evidence based interventions and good practice. It considers a typical EIP care pathway from referral to discharge planning and the role of formulation driven care plans in facilitating recovery. The book highlights that personal recovery has been historically neglected at the expense of symptomatic and social recovery, although it has always been recognised as equally valued by service users.
