ABSTRACT

Taking notes and making notes can be two different tasks. we tend to take notes while something is happening, a lecture or a meeting. The main situation carries on and we don’t have time to stop and think very much about the content of the notes. Making notes is often a more deliberate process. Notes are often a private affair, reminding our student of some ideas. When notes are shared with others, they need more attention. The chapter discusses notes in terms of their uses, taking them, keeping them and making them. Some notes are taken just to assist processing information, to keep attention on listening or reading. The language our student uses could reflect her preference for using visual, verbal or kinaesthetic processes.
