ABSTRACT
Bresnan(1972)suggestedthatmuchofthegrammarof sentence-embeddingcouldbedividedintotwoareas:the 'predicatecomplement'systemandthe'determinercomplement'system.Predicatecomplementsserveinsyntactic structureascomplementstonouns,verbsandadjectives, andcorrespondinlogicalstructuretotheargumentsof predicates.Determinercomplementsaretherelativeand comparativeclauses.Theyappeartobearsomesortof relationshiptodeterminers,andinlogicalstructure,they restrictthevariablesboundbytheoperatorscorresponding tothesedeterminers.Inthisstudy,Iwillpursuetwo differentapproachestowardsthesyntaxofthedeterminer complementsystem.
