ABSTRACT

The conclusion covers the final years of the life of Henri de Ruvigny, earl of Galway, and assesses his achievements in the service of Ireland, England, and France. The conclusion discusses how Galway continued to be of assistance to the Huguenots of the diaspora even in retirement. It also briefly covers his appointment as first governor of La Providence, the Hospital for poor French Protestants in London incorporated by King George I. The conclusion summarises Galway’s involvement in two major military conflicts, the war of the Grand Alliance (1689–97) and the war of the Spanish Succession (1702–13). It also covers his service as a diplomat and administrator for the late Stuart, and Hanoverian monarchs until his death in 1720. The conclusion also lists his most important achievements, especially his role in shaping post-revolutionary Irish constitutional arrangements.
