ABSTRACT

The title of this introductory essay is a play on the name of a successful book, Small Is Beautiful, the Study of Economics as if People Mattered, by British economist Ernst Freidrich Schumacher released in 1973. The book comprises a collection of essays, which reframe and re-position macroeconomics thinking at a critical juncture. The timing of the book could not have been more dramatic as it was released during the energy crisis of 1973, which served to strongly underpin its key message.
