ABSTRACT

This chapter describes how to go about deciding what the teachers will teach and, therefore, what they will test. From the many topics that the teachers could cover in any class, how do they go about picking and choosing which of those they will teach? The chapter discusses standards as they have been developed by national professional organizations and by the various states. It also discusses how these standards are turned into goals and objectives. The chapter describes several approaches to developing and using instructional objectives, especially as the teachers apply to classroom testing. One of the most important and time-consuming planning activities for teachers is the development of daily lesson plans. Objectives are based on what is known as a task analysis. Knowledge-level objectives involve knowing, memorizing, remembering. The most common use of objectives is in lesson planning. This is why objectives were established in the first place.
