ABSTRACT

The UK’s famous supermarket Sainsbury’s has taken its own clothing brand Tu from a standing start in 2004 to record sales of £680 million in 2012. In early 2015, Sainsbury’s was expected to open a new 1 million square foot distribution centre at Daventry International rail freight terminal to face possible delivery issues. The costs of deliveries could vary depending on whether Sainsbury’s chooses to use a third party to make the deliveries. Sainsbury’s will further need to think how the goods are going to get from the supplier to the distribution centre, to the depot and then to the customer, and how lengthy the process of delivery will be. A. C. McKinnon and D. Tallam pointed out that theft could occur at several points along the home delivery channel. The use of in-store delivery and home delivery share both similarities and a variety of differences.
