ABSTRACT

This chapter suggests that the key to success is through the use of a more flexible and responsive supply chain that focuses on reducing time, such as lean and agile supply chain strategies. It offers insight into the ‘leagile’ supply chain strategy – a modern alterative to other traditional, commonly used supply chain strategies. The fact that the agile supply chain is a modern concept means literature regarding the benefits of agile supply chains can appear limited in comparison to the traditional lean supply chain. An agile supply chain can be used as a solution to the problem of volatile demand within the consumer market. A responsive supply chain has been identified as a key solution to the problem of volatile demand in the fashion industry. Flexibility is a major advantage to an agile supply chain. The chapter concludes by describing the environment suitable for each solution.
