ABSTRACT

Ireland's Health and Safety Authority (HSA) states: Bullying is a workplace issue and a human relations issue. The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, as amended by Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Regulations 2007, sets out the main provisions for securing and improving the safety, health, and welfare of people at work. The Health and Safety Authority is responsible for the Code of Practice for Employers and Employees on the Prevention and Resolution of Workplace Bullying, made under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, effective from May 1, 2007. It outlines procedures which should be in place in organizations so that the hazard of workplace bullying can be effectively and consistently addressed. The code of practice also provides guidance for employers, employees, and trade unions on how to prevent a bullying culture from developing and identifies those responsible for its management and control.
