ABSTRACT

Discrimination is prohibited in employment relations on grounds of sex, religion or belief, racial, national, or ethnic origin, disability, age, and sexual orientation. Direct and indirect discrimination are defined consistently with the European Union (EU) directives. Differences of treatment on grounds of age shall not be deemed to constitute discrimination if they are objectively justified by a legitimate aim and the means of achieving that aim are appropriate and necessary. In Slovakia, Labour Code, effective April 1, 2002, as amended by the Antidiscrimination Act in 2013, forbids discrimination on any grounds. Women and men are to be treated equally with regard to access to employment, remuneration, promotion, training, and working conditions. The employer shall ensure that the safety and health of the employees are not threatened by chemical factors, physical factors, biological factors, factors influencing the psychological workload, and social factors.
