ABSTRACT

The Northern Territory Anti-Discrimination Act 1996, an Act to promote equality of opportunity in the territory by protecting persons from unfair discrimination in certain areas of activity and from sexual harassment and certain associated objectionable conduct. The act also provides remedies for persons discriminated against and for related purposes, and covers grounds of unlawful discrimination in employment including race, sex, sexuality, age, marital status, pregnancy, parenthood, breastfeeding, impairment, religious belief or activity, sexual harassment, or association with person with an above attribute. Vicarious liability is provided for in Section 105 as follows: If a worker of a person does an act in connection with his or her work that is unlawful under this Act, or an agent of a person does an act in connection with his or her duties as an agent that is unlawful under this Act, this Act applies in relation to the person as if the person had also done the act.
