ABSTRACT

Canadian labor laws cover all employees in Canada with the majority covered under provincial laws. Each province has its own labor laws. Bullying is usually seen as acts or verbal comments that could "mentally" hurt or isolate a person in the workplace. Sometimes, bullying can involve negative physical contact as well. Bullying usually involves repeated incidents or a pattern of behavior that is intended to intimidate, offend, degrade, or humiliate a particular person or group of people. Canada prohibits employers from discriminating against individuals in hiring, firing, or the terms and conditions of employment because of certain personal characteristics, unless for a valid job requirement. Workplace violence is defined in the Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations as any action, conduct, threat, or gesture of a person towards an employee in their workplace that can reasonably be expected to cause harm, injury, or illness to that employee.
