ABSTRACT

There is a quiet satisfaction in daily routine duty, at once soothing and interesting. This cannot be felt at times of intense feeling, that come at epochs in our lives, when our souls are stirred by higher hopes or joys, or heavy sorrows; these, from their intensity, force us to ask ourselves great questions about Who is really governing the world and our spirits. We could not support or resign our hopes, we should find some bitter disappointment in every joy, we could not bear our sorrows if we did not feel how near God is.
