ABSTRACT
Yes, there is no such awful sadness as to feel without God in life; but to those whom He has given to know Him it is very much to be sure that He is near those who see Him least, preparing them, we trust, for the full sense of the blessing of knowing Him, by the awe of His absence. Stony and cold as the world is to them now, hope cannot even light the future, nor thankfulness the past, yet He who was and is, and is to come, the same eternal Father, is not less near them, though they cannot feel Him.
