ABSTRACT

The old words of the Creed: 'I believe in the Holy Ghost,' what can they mean to us if we believe in the power of clever argument and cunning sophistry, and ungovernable passion and increasing degradation, and not in the still small voice beneath these? Why do we look for the resurrection and the life to come if He who said, I am the Resurrection and the Life,' has only power over worm and dust, and cannot raise from deeper death those over whom the dust of sophistry and worm of gnawing sin have power?
