ABSTRACT

I cannot well express how sure I am of the unutterable dullness of abstract truths, however gloriously expressed in any way, but one very living. However simple the words, words have not taken root in many hearts, and if you want to make people feel what is meant by love you must not say 'love,' nor 'tender,' nor 'gentle,' nor 'sympathetic,' but 'mother,' and you will then call up these feelings, and many more, gathering them up, so that they have life.
