ABSTRACT
I have a strong sense of the terribleness of shutting men out, when they have made a false step, of the absence of any open-hearted willingness to believe in and receive those who would gladly be in a healthier atmosphere, of my strong sense that she was changing, doubting, hungering, and of the impossibility of turning away from just sufficient acquaintance with her for her to know where to turn, if ever we could do her any good. Still, I was prepared to leave her in God's hands.
