I don't know, I am sure, dear Mr. Ruskin, whether convents were glorious things, or not, I suppose they helped to educate learned men, clearly they taught great illuminators. But I don't think that either in convents, or even among the hills, people, who thought to escape from evil, found rest; for surely, is it not so? evil must be fought with and conquered, not run away from, and we shall find evil spirits within ourselves, which can only be cast out by trust in One mightier and nobler than they.
