ABSTRACT

I have had such a sad letter from Ruskin. I wish he saw more of you. I don't believe him to be really unhappy, on the whole. I believe there is occasionally a deep, sad sense of want, but he has so much more joy than others, such a power of casting himself entirely into that which he is working for, so great a human sympathy with comparative strangers, and so deep a trust in that which is beyond all the rest, that I feel he is happy.
