ABSTRACT

This chapter summarizes the arguments and analyses presented in the previous four chapters, and it suggests ways that political and other social scientists studying racial politics can help bring about greater understanding of the meaning and significance of racial politics. It also suggests that – as political beings – social scientists have obligations to use their knowledge and insight to engage politically in order to bring about greater racial justice in the US and elsewhere. The chapter makes some specific suggestions along these lines, providing examples of the kinds of interpretive studies that need to be done.
