ABSTRACT

In a certain tsardom, but not in our country, there lived and dwelt a tsar and this tsar had a son, Tsarevich Ivan. Now once this tsar went off to war against the French, and he captured the French tsar, and he himself went off to other lands to rule, but he left at home his son, Tsarevich Ivan. So then Ivan Tsarevich went to the High Tower where this French tsar was sitting. He came and this tsar said to him: “Let me out,” he says, “Tsarevich Ivan! Just think: if I had taken your father prisoner, how you would have wept! And I have children too, and they will cry.”
