ABSTRACT

Because of natural conditions, normal agriculture is not possible in all the territories of the Russian Far East. In general, land tracts suitable for agriculture all lie south of the perma-frost. But here the main base for agriculture is found in the level, lower areas: the Prikhankaisk, Amur-Zei, and middle Amur plains; the Amur-Zei plateau; and the broad valleys of the great rivers. As a result, virtually 90 percent of all agricultural production in the Russian Far East is concentrated in the central and southern parts of Primorskii Krai, Amur Oblast, the Jewish Autonomous Oblast, and the southern part of Khabarovsk Krai.
