ABSTRACT
From the late eighties into the nineties, the battles between rioting workers and police not only dominated headlines in Korea but also slowed production. The Americans let go by Hyundai Motor America blamed strikes — both at Hyundai Motor and its subsidiaries — for having delayed or altogether stopped crucial deliveries of vehicles needed to stay competitive as car sales plummeted in 1988 and 1989.
