ABSTRACT

In 1935 a Sector of Economics and Geography was set up at the Azerbaidzhani Subdivision of the USSR Academy of Sciences; in 1945, when the Azerbaidzhani Academy of Sciences was formed, the sector became part of it. The research was focused of the political economy, oil extraction industry, agricultural economics, and the location of productive forces. In 1923 the Society for the Study of Azerbaidzhan was organized in Baku. This became the basis for the founding of the Azerbaidzhani State Scientific Research Institute in 1929, with a historical-ethnographic department as one of its components. The Institute of Philosophy of the Azerbaidzhani Academy of Sciences was founded in 1945. In 1950 it was reorganized as a department of philosophy within the Azerbaidzhani Academy’s Institute of History. This department was later made an autonomous sector under the Presidium of the Azerbaidzhani Academy, before emerging in 1967 as the Institute of Philosophy and Law.
