ABSTRACT
Editors' Introduction: This essay surveys writings about the ownership of industrial enterprises in 1987. In pushing for further reform in this area, Yan indirectly advocates greatly expanding share ownership and developing stock markets. His concluding paragraph implies much greater recourse to bankruptcy in China, growing privatization of the economy, and the rapid development of professional factory managers.
