ABSTRACT
Capitalist society exists in history, it is a social organism with a "lifeline," a path from infancy and youth, through maturity, to old age and eventual replacement by higher forms of social organization. A central task of Marxist theory is therefore to determine the nature of capitalism's historical limits: its aging process, the way its contradictions mature and deepen.
